IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Jan 26, IRNA -- Pakistan Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed Monday denied reports that the government has restricted the movement of Pakistan`s father of nuclear program Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan. Zahid Malik, editor of English daily Pakistan Observer and a close friend of Qadeer Khan said on Saturday after meeting Khan that his movement has been restricted. Pakistan`s position was stated at a high level meeting held on Monday to review investigations of scientists being held on the basis of information provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It noted that the investigations into alleged acts of nuclear proliferation for personal gains by a small number of scientists is in progress satisfactorily. Cabinet spokesman Rashid Ahmad told a press conference that there was no pressure on Pakistan on the issue of `debriefings`. To questions, he said that the government would facilitate meeting or telephone conversations between scientists and their families. Replying a question, the minister said the United States is convinced that Pakistan government was not involved in nuclear proliferation. According to the Pakistani official, a network spread in Europe was involved in the proliferation but the Western media was targeting only Pakistan. He also reiterated Pakistan`s commitment to the goals of nuclear non-proliferation. TK/TSH/AH/210 End
