Pak President Musharraf gets vote of confidence from Parliament

Islamabad, Jan 1, IRNA - Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday secured vote of confidence from the National Assembly, the Senate and the four provincial assemblies, as the opposition boycotted the process. The vote of confidence was obtained by the division in both Houses of the Parliament; those who were to vote in his favor and those who were to abstain. In the Senate, Musharraf secured 56 votes out of total 100 votes. One senator, belonging to Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal cast his vote against Musharraf. One Senator Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani`s seat fell vacant after his death last month. President Musharraf bagged 191 votes in the 342-member National Assembly, whereas one seat is vacant, following murder of one its members. MMA members remained present in the House, but did not participate in the voting process. Meanwhile, Musharraf got vote of confidence from the four provincial assemblies. He has taken the vote of confidence with the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) summit three days away on January 4-6. MHA/TSH/213 End
