3 policemen among 7 detained following attack on Musharraf
IRNA
Islamabad, Dec 15, IRNA -- Seven people including three policemen have been arrested in connection with the bomb explosion, of which the Pakistani president said he was the target, reports said on Monday. The explosive, connected with a bridge in the city of Rawalpindi, detonated half a minute after the motorcade of President General Pervez Musharraf crossed the bridge. The authorities are interrogating the arrested persons. President Musharraf was heading to the Army House after returning from a visit to the port city of Karachi. All law enforcement agencies were put on high alert in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi soon after the blast. Large-scale operation was also under way in the Federal Capital and adjoining areas, reports said. "It was certainly a terrorist attack and I was targeted, but I am used to it," General Musharraf told the state-run PTV channel. Musharraf attended a wedding ceremony in Islamabad after the blast. The local police are blamed for their failure to check fitting explosives with a bridge on an important route, leading to the Army House and other key areas. The bridge is located close to the Islamabad international airport, the Chaklala military air base and residences of top serving and retired army officers. TK/TSH/210 End
