West should stop India from piling up arms: Pak minister
IRNA
Islamabad, Nov 19, IRNA - Pakistan`s Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri has called upon the West to help stop India from piling up arms, the local press on Wednesday. Talking to newsmen at an Iftar dinner on Tuesday here, the minister alleged India was disturbing the balance of power in the region by buying conventional and non-conventional weapons. At the same time, the minister maintained Pakistan would continue to add to its defence capability according to its own requirements, the press said. To a question, he said Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee would have to attend the upcoming SAARC summit in Islamabad if he was desirous of peace in South Asia. The summit early this year in Islamabad was postponed after India, according to reports, had declined to attend it. He fully supported restoration of air, road and rail links between the two countries, as both faced poverty as the biggest challenge. "Pakistan and India should initiate a race to eliminate poverty, shunning confrontation," he remarked. MHA/TSH/211 End
