INTRO: Pakistan has accused (Friday) Indian army
commandos of crossing into the Pakistani Kashmir and
massacring 15 civilians in what it calls a
"provocative act of state of terrorism." Ayaz Gul
visited the village of Lanjod, where the killings
occurred, and has this report.
TEXT: The villagers laid out the bodies of the dead
in a school located not far from the line of control
that divides Indian and Pakistani Kashmir. Three of
the victims had been decapitated. A crowd of more
than 500 people cried and chanted anti-Indian slogans.
/// CROWD CHANTING ///
Dilshad Husain Malik is the army commander in charge
of the local area. He says Indian army commandos
crossed at midnight Thursday and attacked an isolated
house near the line of control, where several families
had gathered for a religious ceremony.
/// MALIK ACT ///
It was a very open terrorist act against
civilians. It was a very well conceived
operation of their (Indian) army and they had
carried out a very thorough preparation to
undertake this nefarious activity of there's.
/// END ACT ///
42-year old Muhammad Younis told reporters he was in
the house when the attack occurred.
/// YOUNIS ACT IN URDU FADE UNDER ///
He says that about 15 attackers wearing Indian army
uniforms stormed in and started firing their rifles.
Mr. Younis says jumped out of a window to save his
life.
India has denied the Pakistani allegations, which mark
the most serious incident in Kashmir since the
Pakistani and Indian troops clashed for ten weeks in
the disputed region last year. The two countries have
already fought two wars over Kashmir since gaining
independence from Britain in 1947. (Signed)
