Musharraf presides over special meeting of Corps Commanders
RAWALPINDI, Oct 16 (APP)-Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Army Staff General Pervez Musharraf presided over a special meeting of the Corps Commanders at General Headquarters here Friday morning.
The conference, which was attended by all Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers reviewed in detail issues of national significance, including the prevailing situation in the country, operational preparedness and other important matters following imposition of emergency.
Appreciating the unity and institutional solidarity displayed by the Pakistan Armed Forces, General Pervez Musharraf apprised the participants regarding the circumstances, which had led to the imposition of emergency in the country.
He discussed with
them the measures which were being finalized
for the establishment of an efficient and impartial interim
setup, which would ensure stability, credibility, transparency
and accountability in running the affairs of the state.

David Dain on Friday separately called on Chief Executive,
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Army Staff, General
Pervez Musharraf here at the General Headquarters.
They remained with the Chief Executive for sometime and exchanged views with him on matters of mutual interest.
The High Commissioner of Malaysia Dato Salah ud Din on Friday also called on Chief Executive, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Army Staff, General Pervez Musharraf here at the General Headquarters.
The Malaysian
High Commissioner remained with the Chief Executive
for sometime and exchanged views with him on matters of mutual
interest.
Foreign, local
accounts of all politicians freezed
KARACHI, Oct 16 (APP)- State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has asked all banks not to operate any foreign or local accounts of all notable politicians including senators, federal and provincial ministers, MNAs, MPAs, political advisors, special assistants and their spouses.
The SBP Circular (BPRD No. 44) issued late on Thursday night to executives of all banks and NBFIs said that these accounts were being temporarily stopped from operation till further orders.

those whose accounts were freezed include former
Prime Ministers Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Ms. Benazir Bhutto,
senate chairman, Wasim Sajjad, former ministers
Gohar Ayub Khan, Shaikh Rashid

Deposed PM Nawaz
Sharif fine, in good health: Brig. Rashid Qureshi
ISLAMABAD, Oct 16 (APP): Director General ISPR Brigadier Rashid Qureshi while giving the first account about the present state of deposed Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said he is fine and in good health.
While speaking to BBC Television Friday night, Brigadier Rashid Qureshi said Mr. Sharif is presently under protective custody and there are certain legal processes that have to be completed.
" I am not absolutely
sure as to the state of those processes,"
he added.
Nation to observe Shaheed-i-Millat's death anniversary on Oct.16
ISLAMABAD, Oct 16 (APP)- The 48th death anniversary of Shaheed-i-Millat Khan Liaquat Ali Khan will be observed on October 16, throughout the country with due solemnity.
The national flag at all major buildings will fly half mast as mark of respect to 'Shaheed-i-Millat'.
The day will begin with Quran Khawani at the Mazar of Liaqat Ali Khan, at Karachi located within the premises of the mausoleum of Father of nation Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
A large number of people belonging to various walks of life will visit the Mazar to offer Fateha and lay the floral wreaths.

of Pakistan movement and a close and trusted lieutenant of Quaid-i-Azam
Muhammad Ali Jinnah was assassinated on October 16, 1951

Kashmiris to
observe Yaum-e-Aseeran tomorrow to protest against plight
of APHC leaders in Detention
ISLAMABAD, Oct
16 (APP)-Kashmiris, in Occupied Kashmir, Azad
Kashmir and those living abroad are observing Yaum-e-Aseeran tomorrow
to attract world's attention to the plight in illegal
detention of top APHC leadership.
The Day
to be observed on the call of APHC, is to be marked by
total strike in Occupied kashmir.
In a statement in Srinagar today an APHC spokesman expressed
grave concern about the health condition of APHC leaders
under detention in Jodhpur, Udhampur and other notorious jails.
He pointed out that the APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Gilani,
senior APHC leader and its chief spokesman, Professor Abdul
Ghani Butt, Muhammad Yaseen Malik and other APHC leaders in Jodhpur
jail were being kept in solitary confinement. Medical
facilities were denied to them in spite
of the fact that Syed Ali Shah Gilani
has had heart attack during detention and Muhammad Yaseen
Malik was heart patient.
The Deputy Bureau Chief of New Delhi office of APHC, G.M. Butt and advocate of the Occupied Kashmir Supreme Court, Raja Tufail Ahmad had gone to Jodhpur to meet the detained APHC leaders but they were not allowed to see them.
Japanese Ambassador calls on Pervez Musharraf
RAWALPINDI (Pakistan), Oct 16 (APP)- Japanese Ambassador Minoru Kubota called on Chief Executive, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Army Staff, General Pervez Musharraf here at the General Headquarters on Saturday.
The Ambassador of Japan remained with the Chief Executive for sometime and exchanged views with him on matters of mutual interest.
Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmed was also present on the occasion.
Life
is normal and there is complete peace in country: Spokesman
ISLAMABAD (Pakistan), Oct 16 (APP): The life is quite normal and civil government is functioning as usual, Director General, External Publicity Wing, Abdul Rauf Malik said.
Talking to Cable News Network (CNN), Abdul Rauf Malik said, there is no problem anywhere and there is complete peace in the length and breadth of country.
He said the Chief of Army Staff has been proclaimed as Chief Executive of the country and there is proclamation of emergency and Provisional Constitutional Order and the things are quite normal and offices are working as usual.
Asked upto when state of emergency is likely to last, Abdul Rauf Malik said, actually you know, the things have been announced today, and after that the process will move and definitely the things will unfold and clear up.
About the whereabouts
of dismissed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
and other, he said "they have been taken into protective custody".
Pakistan expresses
concern over thin representation in WHO set up
ISLAMABAD, Oct
16 (APP)-Pakistan representative Director
General Health Dr. Ghayyur H. Ayub has
expressed concern over
thin representation in World Health Organisation
set up. He
raised this issue at the WHO high level
meeting held recently in
Cairo (Egypt).
Dr. Ghayyur H.
Ayub convincingly presented Pakistan's case
regarding the meager share of Pakistan
in the representational
set up which he said has adversely affected
the mission's
activities.
According to
the official sources, Pakistan should have been
given due share in the WHO set up according
to its 35 per cent
population share but had been ignored
and put the country in
disadvantaged position.
At present only
three Pakistanis nationals have been
representing that too at very low level
which is all the time
negligible but on other hand WHO getting
huge share from Pakistan
to improve the health facilities and other
related projects.
