PARLIAMENT: The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Siddique Khan Kanju has categorically stated that there has been no underhand dealing on CTBT and the government has brought the issue before the Parliament for a threadbare discussion.

He was making a statement in the joint session of the Parliament which resumed debate on the CTBT Tuesday. He assured the Parliament that the government would not take any decision against the national interest or under coercion. He said Muslim League which struggled for Pakistan cannot imagine to work against the interest of the country. He said the Prime Minister has set a good tradition by bringing the important issue before the Parliament to seek its guidance so as to safeguard the national interest. He reminded the House that at the time of passage of the CTBT by UN General Assembly in 1996, the decision to vote in its favour was taken by the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. As against this, he said the government has for the first time decided to take the parliament into confidence on a vital issue.
