SEMINAR: At a seminar in Islamabad, experts in foreign policy and strategy have spotlighted the Indian hegemonistic designs behind its ambitious nuclear programme and observed that Pakistan had no alternative but to establish its credible nuclear deterrence.

The speakers traced the Indian nuclear programme back to 1950s and observed that India has been seeking a world power status and it wants to hegemonise South Asia for its selfish motives.

The experts also pointed out that one of the main purposes behind Indian nuclear tests was to boost declining morale of the Indian forces in occupied Kashmir and demoralise the Kashmiri freedom fighters. India has failed to achieve this purpose. World powers are rather more inclined to a just resolution of the Kashmir issue than ever.

Regarding the cost Pakistan has to bear for going nuclear, the experts pointed out no cost is greater than Pakistan's sovereignty, security and honour.

PRIME MINISTER's OFFICE: Setting a personal example of simplicity, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif started working Friday in a simple office situated in the Cabinet Block in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister had already vacated the newly built palatial Prime Minister's Secretariat to economise on expenditure.

Cabinet block of Pakistan Secretariat, where Prime Minister has now shifted this office also houses many Ministries and Divisions. Under instructions from the Prime Minister, economy has been given prime consideration in the process of shifting and relocation of the office.

MUSHAHID: Minister for Information and Media Development Mushahid Hussain Syed has described the defector claiming to be a Pakistani nuclear scientist, as a fraud and a second rate trickster and urged Western media to take him to task.

Talking to reporters in Islamabad Friday, he expected the international media, particularly Western media to be more responsible and sift fact from fiction.

The owner of a local ceramic tiles factory had identified him as a former Accountant in the firm after seeing his picture in the newspapers.

Mr. Mushahid Hussain Syed said Pakistan's position has been vindicated by the US State Department which said it could not confirm the man's allegations.
