PRIME MINISTER: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said Pakistan does not have any aggressive designs against any country but it is fully capable to defeat any foreign aggression without any outside help.

Addressing a big rally of Pakistani community in Alexandra Palace in London Sunday night, he said Pakistan has decided to live with dignity and honour and will never entrust its security to others. He said security and defence of the country can never be traded off and they would never barter away the national interests.

Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said efforts were still being made to punish Pakistan for conducting the nuclear tests but the people of the country are determined to foil such conspiracies.

He urged the overseas Pakistanis to play their role in making the country self reliant in economic as well as defence fields. He called upon them to remit their foreign exchange through legal channels.

Thousands of Pakistani men, women and children attended the meeting which was the first of its kind in London.

He said Pakistan did not behave arrogantly like India after the tests. He said following Pakistan's matching response, now India had changed its tune and tenor. Now they speak of talks and negotiations.

He said lukewarm attitude of the world community particularly the major powers forced Pakistan to give telling response to India's nuclear blasts.

PM-KASHMIR: The Prime Minister has called on the United Nations to play its meaningful role for the solution of lingering Kashmir issue.

Talking to a delegation of Pakistan Muslim League and Muslim Conference led by former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan in London Sunday, he said we are ready for bilateral talks but India must show its seriousness for the settlement of Kashmir issue.

Referring to his telephonic conversations with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, US President Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other leaders in recent days, the Prime Minister said he had told the world leaders that Kashmir was the root cause of tension in South Asia. He said peace and security of the region lies in just settlement of Kashmir problem.

About his agenda of self-reliance, Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said Pakistani nation will never hesitate to sacrifice for the cause of national interests. He said the nation has appreciated the national agenda for self-reliance.

PM-ALTAF: Chief of Mutahida Qaumi Movement, Mr. Altaf Hussain called on Prime Minister Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in London Sunday.

They exchanged views on political matters and prevailing situation in the country.

Mr. Altaf Hussain congratulated the Prime Minister over conducting successful nuclear tests.

NO CONFIDENCE: Balochistan Assembly meets in Quetta Monday morning to take up no confidence resolution moved by 11 PML members against Chief Minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal.

Speaker Mir Abdul Jabbar will preside over the session. The session has been called on the joint request of PML and JWFP.

RASHID: Former Senior Vice President Pakistan People's Party, Shaikh Rashid Ahmad has appreciated the Prime Minister's decision to implement land reforms in letter and spirit.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore Sunday, he said that all state land leased out to political leaders and feudal families be cancelled and distributed among land-less farmers.

He said by distributing such a big chunk of land among farmers, the agricultural production will get a boost and about 18 lakh families would obtain a permanent means of livelihood.

ACCIDENT: Four persons were killed and 16 injured in a collision between a tractor trolley and a passenger wagon near Gakkar Mandi in Gujranwala district Sunday.

The injured have been hospitalized in Gujranwala and Gakkar Mandi.

PRIME MINISTER : The Prime Minister addressed a large gathering of Pakistanis in Manchester Saturday night.

He said |Pakistan's defence is now invincible and the nation must now concentrate on building the economy.

He said the national agenda announced recently will be fully implemented so that the country could enter the next century with dignity and honour. He asked the Overseas Pakistanis to come forward and play their role for strengthening the country.

The Prime Minister told them of government's various offers for the Overseas Pakistanis to help the motherland making investment in the country. He urged them to send their savings through banks and not through illegal channels. He said the masses have full faith in our leadership and we are determined to take befitting revolutionary measures for the rapid uplift of the nation. In fact revolutionary measures have been initiated by the government which have been widely claimed by all sections of the population.

He said that Pakistan has always behaved responsibly and maturely despite that it had nuclear capability for the past several years. Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said it was India which had remained arrogant and intransigent and started giving threats to its neighbours once it under took latest nuclear tests.

The Prime Minister said before opting for the nuclear tests, Pakistan tested the international community first but he regretted that the world community acted in an improper manner in announcing and enforcing sanctions against India.

Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said it is time that Kashmir issue should be resolved and Kashmiris given their right of self-determination. He said there must be an end to the atrocities being perpetrated by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.

The Prime Minister said normalisation of relations with India was not possible unless Kashmir dispute is settled as per UN Resolutions.

NISAR : The Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan has had a meeting with the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jabir Al-Ahmad Al-Jabir Al-Saba in Kuwait Sunday.

They exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and appreciated that the two countries enjoyed cordial and friendly relations.

Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan explained the situation which compelled Pakistan to conduct nuclear tests after India's nuclear explosions. He said Pakistan had to use nuclear option to maintain the balance of power in the region and to ward off dangers to its security.

KASHMIR : In occupied Kashmir, a severe encounter took place between the freedom fighters and Indian forces in the middle reaches of Pir Panjal range in which a number of occupation troops were killed and injured and large quantity of arms and ammunition was seized by freedom fighters.

Several localities in Pir Panjal range are under military siege and clashes were reported from a number of places but details were not available. Siege and search operations were also reported from Baramula, Rafiabad, Uri and Kupwara. Similar military action is underway in upper forest areas of Doda, Rajauri and Poonch.

A spokesman of the freedom fighters in Srinagar Sunday said that the Indian secret agencies had prepared a plan to kill foreign tourists in order to defame freedom fighters.

Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference and the High Court Bar Association have appealed to Amnesty International to take immediate notice of the re-arrest of Hurriyet leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz, who was recently released after five years detention.

ACCIDENT : Seven persons including six of a family were killed when a speeding bus collided with a Lahore bound car near Okara Sunday. All the victims were travelling in the car.
