PAKISTAN PROMISES NOT TO PROVIDE NUCLEAR AID TO IRAN
ISRAEL LINE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 1998
Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Eliahu Ben-Elissar, and
Ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Dore Gold, received messages from
their Pakistani counterparts promising that Pakistan will not transfer any
nuclear knowledge or material to Iran or any Middle Eastern country, YEDIOT
AHARONOT reported.
Secret contacts between Israeli and Pakistani officials were held after
Israel expressed concerns that Pakistan may be tempted to sell its nuclear
knowledge to Iran in order to lighten the burden of American sanctions
enacted after Pakistan's nuclear tests last month. These concerns were
fueled by Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Harrazi's visit to Pakistan
immediately following the tests.
