Solution of kashmir issue vital to avert nuclear war in S.Asia

RAWALPINDI, June 10 APP: Maj.Gen (retd) Muhammad Hayat Khan, President Pakistan Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir (PMLJK) on Tuesday appealed to the United Nations to expedite its efforts to find a suitable solution to Kashmir issue so that looming threats of nuclear conflict may be averted from this region. In a press statement here Tuesday, Hayat Khan who is also the former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir regretted that the resolution adopted by foreign ministers of five permanent members of security council at its recent Geneva meeting did not speak of any appropriate strategy for the solution of Kashmir issue. Hayat Khan who is also chairman of Kashmir Forum of Motmair Alam e Islami said that despite Indian and Pakistan nuclear tests United Nations was not taking kashmir issue seriously. He said that chances of a nuclear war in the subcontinent may be enhanced if United Nation continue to display cold attitude towards most alarming issue of the world. Any nuclear war in this connection will not only be dangerous for South Asia but it would also harmful for the entire world.

Exports during July-May 1997-98 totalled $ 7.82 billion

ISLAMABAD, Jun 10.(APP):- The country's exports during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year (July-May, 1997-98) amounted to $ 7.82 billion as against the exports of $ 7.52 recorded in the corresponding period of the last year. According to the officials of the Ministry of Commerce, in rupee terms, the exports during the same period (July-May, 1997- 98) totalled Rs.337.49 billion as against the exports of Rs. 293.23 billion in the corresponding period last year, showing an increase of 15% . The exports during the month of May, 1998 was recorded at $ 684 million as against the exports of $ 700 million in the previous month (April) showing a decline of 2.3%. When compared with the exports of $ 714 million in May, 1997, the exports of May, 1998 showed a decline of 4.2%. The imports during May, 1998 totalled $ 692 million, showing an increase of 3% when compared with the imports of $ 672 million in the previous month (April, 1998), the officials said. However, when compared with the imports of $ 1007 million in May, 1997, the imports of May, 1998 showed a decline of 31.3 %. The total imports during July-May, 1997-98 amounted to $ 9.15 billion as against the imports of $ 10.71 billion, showing a decline of 14.6%.
