PAK-UNSC : Pakistan has regretted that the UN Security Council's resolution adopted Saturday does not deal effectively with
the urgent and core issue which have endangered peace and security in South Asia.
In a statement in Islamabad Sunday, a Foreign Office spokesman said while recognising pivotal position of the Kashmir issue to
the grave security crisis in the region, the resolution does not contain measures for sustained action by the international community
to seek its solution.
The spokesman regretted Council's failure to incorporate the pre-dominant view of its members and international community
which urgently desires that this root cause of tension in nuclearised south Asia should be substantively addressed to achieve a just
settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
The spokesman also referred to the inter-linked issues of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and said the Security
Council's approach has been lopsided and unrealistic. The Council should have called for steps towards reducing the risk of
nuclear conflict and for promotion of nuclear restraint and stabilisation measures between Pakistan and India on an urgent basis.
