UAE President fully supports Pakistan's Nuclear stand

ABU DHABI, June 8 (APP)-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had more than two and a half hours talk with UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on Saturday evening, discussing a whole range ofbilateral relations, reports APP special correspondent. Both the sides agreed to further strengthen and consolidate their close and cooperative relations. According to official sources, several possibilities of UAE's participation in Pakistan's economic projects were discussed; details of these projects would be worked out in discussion to be held at ministerial and experts level in coming week. The two leaders also discussed the regional situation with special reference to the precarious security environment prevailing in South Asia as a result of provocative actions and unambiguous intents to commit aggression against Pakistan. The Prime Minister apprised the UAE President of the sequence of events including utter indifference of the International Community to India's belligerency that led to Pakistan's nuclear tests in response to those of India. The International response particularly by West to India's nuclear tests and threats to Pakistan's security were far from satisfactory.

Pakistan has no aggressive designs against anyone: Nawaz

ABU DHABI, June 8 (APP)- Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said Pakistan has no aggressive designs against anyone and the nuclear tests which it carried were purely for self-defence. Addressing the Pakistanis living in this gulf State, Nawaz Sharif said when India conducted its nuclear tests, "we waited to see what the international community does, unfortunately their response was very cold. We were left with no option but to give a befitting reply to India", he said. "God has now finally given us an opportunity to live decently without being sub servient to anyone", he added. Nawaz, however, said it would not be easy to maintain the independent stature "and lots of sacrifices would be needed if we want to achieve our goals. "I must tell you that Pakistan has permanently shut the mouths of all those who had been saying that Pakistan is a failed state. "Now the world knows that we can defend ourselves without looking for outside support", Nawaz said.

NPT is discriminatory: Nawaz Sharif laments of double standards

ABU DHABI, June 8 (APP)- Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Sunday said the established nuclear weapon states had double standards on nuclear non-proliferation. "The nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is discriminatory," he said. In an interview with dailies 'al-Ittihad' and 'Emirates News', he said, "the established weapon states have sought to justify their retention of weapons on the basis of deterrence, when none of them is threatened directly or indirectly in the post-cold war era." Pakistan, he said, is not focussing on non-proliferation issues "which cannot be pursued in a security void." Nawaz Sharif blamed India for the arms race and said it was "fascinated by visions of privileges and status." Pakistan, he said, does not claim any special standing in the international world by virtue of conducting the tests. He said, Pakistan's nuclear weapons were "mainly to deter aggression against it, whether conventional or nuclear." He called upon India to "abandon its reckless and irresponsible actions" and agree to a "serious, substantive and meaningful dialogue on all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir."

Saudi Arabia assures of full support to Pakistan

JEDDAH, JUNE 8 (APP): Saudi Arabia on Sunday assured Pakistan of its full support in view of the situation arising out of the sanctions imposed by various countries after it conducted six nuke tests. "Saudi Arabia assures its full support in alleviating the negative impact of unfair and unjust sanctions imposed by certain countries," Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz said during his meeting with Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif. "These sanctions, we believe would not produce the desired results," he added. "Saudi Arabia had always stood by Pakistan and will continue to support the just cause of Pakistani brethren". The meeting between the two lasted over one a half hour. Premier Nawaz, while apprising the Crown Prince of the security situation in South Asia, said these have been caused by Hindu fundamentalist BJP which even before coming to power through its manifesto declared its support for nuclear weapons. The BJP, Nawaz said, had also sworn to commit aggression against Azad Kashmir. The Prime Minster informed the Saudi Prince of the "increasing pressure" Pakistan had to bear while waiting for international community's response to India's nuclear tests.

Balance of power restored in S.Asia : Premier Nawaz

JEDDAH, June 8 (APP): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that after Pakistan successfully carried out its nuclear tests, balance of power has been restored in South Asia. Addressing the Pakistan Professional and Bussiness Community here, he said such bold decisions are turning-point in the history of the nations. "It was a decision that had to be taken specially after the world community's cold-shouldered attitude to India's nuclear tests." " We took the decision which was in the supreme national interest," he said. Nawaz said he had made it clear to the world leaders that Kashmir remains the biggest sore between India and Pakistan. "We are not ready to face discrimination at the hands of the world community. After our test, Kofi Anan rang me up. I told him that I don't understand that why one UN resolution is implemented immediately while the other is lying in cold storage for nearly 50 years." The world, he added, is now gradually realising that Pakistan carried out nuclear tests because of India and its security concerns.

India cannot be trusted for its commitments : Gohar Ayub

ISLAMABAD, June 8 (APP): Foreign Minister Gohar Ayub Khan has said that India cannot be relied upon for its commitments and agreements it made with Pakistan. "In 1982, we signed an agreement with India that the two sides will not attack each other's nuclear installations but on the nights on May 27-28, they made all-out efforts to attack our nuclear facilities. However, they could not do so because we were fully alert", he said in an interview with BBC. "In 1992, Pakistan signed an agreement with India. India declared that they did not have chemical weapons nor did they have such facilities. Pakistan too made an identical declaration but last year India declared that they had chemical weapons and facilities", he added. He said, the foreign secretary level talks between Pakistan and India have been going on for the past 50 years." Declarations have also been coming on them, but the outcome has been nil." Giving another such precedent, Gohar Ayub said, India has so far not allowed any United Nation's resolution to be implemented.

Mushahid blames RAW for bomb blast in Khyber Mail

ISLAMABAD, June 8 (APP): Information Minister Mushahid Hussain Sayed on Sunday held Indian intelligence agency RAW responsible for bomb blast in Khyber Mail train near Khairpur. "Pakistan has unimpeachable evidence of involvement of India's intelligence agency RAW in this act of terrorism", he said in an interview with BBC television. Mushahid said, India's BJP fundamentalist regime soon after they took the charge had initiated provocative policy towards Pakistan. "They started threaten to attack on Azad Kashmir just after their five underground nuke tests". The Minister said, when Pakistan restored the balance by detonating its own nuclear devices, the Indian fundamentalist regime resorted to a new tactics namely destabilization through acts of terrorism by their intelligence agency "RAW". He said, India's BJP regime after Pakistan's nuclear tests want to divert attention from its domestic frustration. "They did an act of terrorism in Lahore two days ago in a cinema through a similar time bomb and the person who has been captured in that act is an Indian national who has acknowledged being involved in such acts of terrorism", he added.

Pakistan shocked over UN Security Council resolution : Foreign Office Spokesman

ISLAMABAD, June 8 (APP): Commenting on the UN Security Council resolution adopted on Friday, the Spokesman of the Foreign Office has said that Pakistan regrets that the resolution does not deal adequately and effectively with the urgent and core issues that have endangered peace and security in South Asia. While recognising the centrality of the Kashmir issue to the grave security crisis in South Asia the Council resolution does not contain measures for sustained action by the international community to seek its solution, he said. "We regret the Council's failure to incorporate the predominant view of its members and the international community, which urgently desires that this root cause of the tension in a nuclearized South Asia should be substantively addressed and a just settlement of the Kashmir dispute should be expeditiously realised", he said. On the inter-linked issues of nuclear disarmament and non- proliferation the Council's approach has been manifestly lopsided, unjust and unrealistic, he said.
