Bilateral dialogue with Delhi needs to be supplemented by multilateral process : FO

ISLAMABAD, June 6 (APP)- Pakistan on Friday said it supports the resumption of the bilateral talks with India for resolution of outstanding issues including Kashmir but stressed that such a dialogue "needs to be supplemented by a broader multilateral process to promote durable peace in South Asia." Noting with satisfaction "a comprehensive approach to peace and security in South Asia" by five permanent members of the Security Council in a meeting at Geneva on Thursday, a Foreign Office Spokesman said: "Pakistan supports the resumption of the bilateral talks with India at the Foreign Secretaries level on the basis of the agreement reached in Islamabad last June." But, he added, it is evident now that the bilateral dialogue needs to be supplemented by a broader multilateral process to promote durable peace and security in south Asia. "In this context, it is regrettable that India has rejected the offers of mediation from the UN Secretary General as well as Japan, Iran, Bangladesh and others," the Spokesman said.
