The Prime Minister Mr.Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has said the present situation has provided best opportunity to pakistan and india to sit together and resolve all their bilateral problems through dialogue. He said this while addressing the joint parliamentary meeting of pml sectors and mnas in the parliament house this afternoon. He informed the members of parliament that there was great pressure on pakistan and he took the decision to conduct nuclear tests in line with the expectation of people of pakistan. He said the timing of the tests was perfect and results were overwhelmingly successful. The Prime Minister said after the indian nuclear tests pakistan contacted the world leaders but the response of the world leaders was not according to pakistan's expectations. He said going for nuclear was a difficult decision and was taken after lengthy and deep consultations.
He said there were many options for Pakistan after the indian tests but it selected the best one. He said even americans now admit that Pakistan played straight in the crisis. Mr. Mohammad Nawaz Sharif congratulated the members of parliament for the successful nuclear tests and said even the world and international media now recognise that pakistan's nuclear and missile technology was superior than the indians. He said then international community now recognises pakistan at par with india and was calling for solution of problems between the two including kashmir. Similarly the big five and g-8 countries have admitted pakistan's nuclear capability. He said, sanctions imposed by some countries have provided a unique opportunity to Pakistan to rise to the occasion and achieve self reliance. He said, his government took up this challenge. He asked the parliamentarians to set up example for others to follow for austerity and hardship.

The five permanent members of the security council have pledged they would encourage india and Pakistan to find mutually acceptable solutions through direct talks that address the root causes of tension including Kashmir. At the end of the meeting in Geneva, the foreign ministers of the united States, China, Russia, Britain and France called for a quick action plan to avert a nuclear arms race in the region. They urged india and pakistan to build confidence rather than seeking armed confrontation. The ministers said, the two countries should stop further such tests and refrain from deploying nuclear weapons to avert nuclear arms race in south asia. They also called on india and pakistan to sign the key arms limitation pact, npt and the ctbt and pledge not to export nuclear weapon technology.
U.s. secretary of state madeleine albright told a news conference that the aim of the geneva meeting was to send a coordinated message to india and pakistan about what outside powers believe they must do. British foreign secretary robin cook said, it would be wise for india and pakistan to take note of seriousness of which the international community regards this.
President muhammad rafiq tarar has called upon the ulema to prepare
the nation for facing new challenges in order to frustrate the evil designs
of the enemies of the country. He was talking to a delegation of ulema
led by advisor to ministry of religious affairs, al-haj haider ali mirza.
The president said the country has entered in new era following nuclear
tests and it demands historic struggle for the real independence and national
sovereignty. The ulema assured the president that they would join hands
with government efforts for protection of national dignity.
Fifty-five journalists, representing various foreign media visited the line of control at chakoti in azad kashmir. The line of control has been subjected to heavy firing from the indian army in recent days. A large number of people have been killed and wounded as a result of unprovoked indian firing across the line of control. Senior commanders briefed the media people on the prevailing situation in the area and about the unabated and unprovoked firing by the indian troops from across the border on the civilian population residing in villages situated along the line of control. After visiting the area, the foreign media favoured pakistan's point of view to conduct nuclear test for safeguarding its national security and territorial integrity. A prominent u.s. journalist martin sugarman has said, kashmir issue has again become focus of the world community following changed global scenario.An author of a book on Kashmir, sugarman was talking to ptv corespondent muzammil ahmad khan in islamabad today.
In occupied Kashmir, all parties hurriyet conference leaders have urged the world community and five permanent members of security council to intervene and get resolved the Kashmir issue to defuse nuclear threat in south asia. The chairman of Aphc, syed ali gilani, its former chairman, mirwaiz umer farooq and javed ahmad mir were addressing a big public rally at jamia mosque srinagar on the occasion of jumma congregation. The aphc chairman welcomed statement of the u.s foreign minister that lasting solution of kashmir issue was must to remove the basic cause of confrontation and conflict in south asia. Addressing a special gathering in budgam, the aphc leader, agha hasan mausavi budgam appealed to world powers to put economic and political pressure on india for solution of kashmir issue. Meanwhile, Srinagar airport is being closed six months and air traffic is to be diverted to koel air field in pulwama. According to informed sources in srinagar, the airport is being made serviceable for use of sukhoi bombers, capable of carrying nuclear war heads.
A high level meeting was held in islamabad today to bring about co-operation among different departments with regard to creating awareness among the people about national self reliance fund set up by the prime minister mr.mohammad nawaz sharif. Information minister mushahid hussain chaired the meeting which was attended by commerce minister ishaq dar, co-ordinator for nsrf khawaja haroon and other senior officials.Various proposals were made in order to educate and mobilise pakistani citizens living inside and outside the country to make contributions to the fund. A sub-committee was established under the chairmanship of khawaja haroon to work out modalities and mechanism in this regard. The meeting also expressed satisfaction over the positive response of the people to the appeal of the prime minister and noted.
