National Agenda to be implemented in letter & spirit : PM
ISLAMABAD, June 5 (APP)- Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday
said that National consensus which emerged on the eve of Pakistan's testing
of nuclear devices recently augurs well for country's future. "This spirit
is a source of strength for the whole nation," he said, while presiding
over a high level meeting at the Prime Minister House to discuss the "national
agenda" in the post May 28 scenario to cope with the challenges that lay
ahead. Nawaz Sharif appreciated that the nation demonstrated a unique sense
of unity and solidarity in one of the most crucial periods of its history.
"The nation has the resilience and inherited potential to pursue its goals
steadfastly even in the most difficult and trying circumstances," he remarked.
The meeting discussed a number of proposals relating to the national agenda.
Those included measures to promote austerity in all walks of national life,
self-reliance, strengthening of national economy, improving tax collection,
revenue generation and ensuring speedy justice to the people.
Nuclear capability for self-defence: FO clarifies
ISLAMABAD, June 5 (APP): Reacting to various reports and statements from different quarters including from foreign countries, the Foreign Office has once again clarified that Pakistan's nuclear capability is for its self-defence. "No attempt should, therefore, be made to give it an extraneous context or a religious colouring," a Foreign Office Spokesman said. The Spokesman said that, as the whole world has acknowledged, the Indians are the aggressors and Pakistan is the aggrieved party. "India, conducted nuclear tests and immediately after indulging in nuclear blackmail. Pakistan only reacted in view of the grave threat to its security." Pakistan, he reiterated, has no aggressive designs against anybody. "There is also no question of any transfer of nuclear technology to any third country or entity. There is no need for any apprehension in this regard."
China will play vital role in building infrastructure of Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, June 5 (APP): A delegation of the China Petroleum Engineering
Construction Corporation headed by Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Zhang Chengli
called on Chairman National Highway Authority Maj. Gen. (R) Hidayat ullah
Khan Niazi at NHA head office Thursday. Detailed talks were held on national
highways projects being completed by Chinese construction companies at
the meeting, an official statement said Thursday. Besides Economic and
commercial Counsellor of China Qiangyao, the construction experts of NHA
were also present. Chairman NHA Maj Gen (R) Hidayat ullah Khan Niazi said,
China is our friendly neighbouring country and that her construction companies
are working on Chablat-Nowshera, Khuzdar-Shahdkot national highways and
D.G. Khan-Retra Junction, Retra-Malana Junction and Karak-Karappa Chowk
sections of the Indus highway project. He said, the Chinese construction
companies are performing key role in building the infrastructure of Pakistan.
He said, cooperation in construction sphere will continue between the two
countries.
Scientists give us challenge of hard work in all fields: Ahsan Iqbal
ISLAMABAD, June 5 (APP): Coordinator, Year-2010 Programme Ahsan Iqbal has said that Nuclear scientists of the country have given a challenge to the nation "to work hard" in different fields of life for the progress and prosperity of the nation. He was speaking in a Pakistan Television Programme "Sawaray Sawaray" on Thursday. Our scientists have shown their supremacy and capability in the nuclear technology and only hard work is the key to continue it, Ahsan Iqbal said and added that now each and every Pakistani should undertake new research and developments in his respective field. Ahsan said that in the last half a century Pakistan has provided education, business, respect and several other facilities, but in response, we did nothing for our beloved country. He said, it is a high time that we may realize our mistakes and start work for nationalism. Responding to a question about eliminating menace of corruption in the programme of Year 2010, he said that our aim is to create and improve ethical values in our next generation so that they may become a more useful citizen of the state and added that strict accountability and reduction in discretionary powers will lead to end the corruption is 2010 Programme.
Warm response from business community to National Self-Reliance Fund
ISLAMABAD, Jun 5 (APP): The people at large, particularly the business community enthusiastically received the P.M.'s call for contributing to the National Self-Reliance Fund, in the wake of possible economic sanctions. Reports from across the country, say that the P.M.'s call matches aspirations of the people to make the country self- reliant, setting aside the pressure from the super powers, which Pakistan, time and again, had faced, whenever it moves for national sovereign and prosperity. The government has exempted all the donations to the National Self-Reliance Fund from tax, which can be deposited at the designated branches of Pakistani commercial banks all over the world. The government has set up two different types of accounts for the purpose: "NSRF -1" for Foreign Currency donations and "NSRF-2" for local currency donations. Unlimited donations can also be deposited at the State Bank of Pakistan. These funds will be used to meet the country's defence needs and to achieve the country's self-reliance objectives.
Social Justice can be ensured through Quranic teaching : Ghous
ISLAMABAD, June 5 (APP): The Government is making all-out efforts to make the country a true welfare Islamic State based on social Justice. This was stated by the Education Minister, Syed Ghous Ali Shah while chairing a meeting held here Thursday to review the implementation on the directive of Prime Minister issued on assumption of power in February last year. These directives pertained to teaching of Nazira Holy Quran and with its translation in all the schools from class I to X. The meeting was informed that Curriculum Wing of Federal Education Ministry after holding comprehensive meeting with religious scholars and educations prepared curriculla and arranged draft of books. It was also informed that some books with the cooperation of National Book Foundation had already been prepared and sent to provincial governments. The Federal Government and the Government of Punjab have introduced the programme and being implemented effectively.
