SARTAJ: The Finance Minister Mr. Sartaj Aziz has said the government would save about 10 billion rupees by slashing down government expenses.

In an interview with BBC he said the government is considering measures to reduce non-developmental expenditure in order to face the economic hardships in the wake of nuclear tests.

Replying to another question the Finance Minister said that the government will seek assistance from the Islamic countries and in this connection it has asked Malaysia for supply of Palm Oil on credit.

MUSHAHID: The Minister for Information and Media Development Mr. Mushahid Hussain Syed has said that Pakistan is ready to hold talks with India on all issues including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the outgoing probationers of Information Services Academy in Islamabad he pointed out that nuclear tests carried out by Pakistan has unified the nation unlike the Indian tests creating division and rift in Indian society.

He said the government took all political leaders and leaders of public opinion into confidence before carrying out the tests. The Prime Minister Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had also candidly told the world leadership that his government would never compromise on the national security.

SULTAN: The AJK Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry has said that the Kashmir dispute is the main cause of arms race in South Asia which should be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions and aspirations of Kashmiri people.

In an interview with PPI he criticised India for refusing to honour the commitment for the grant of right of self-determination to the Kashmiri people. He said despite the nuclear parity achieved by Pakistan, India has still aggressive designs in the region.

MESSAGE: The President Mr. Muhammad Rafiq Tarar and the Prime Minister Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have expressed their shock and grief over the heavy loss of life and property in earthquake in Afghanistan.

In their messages they said the government and people of Pakistan fully share the grief of Afghan brethren and would do every thing for their rehabilitation.

The President and the Prime Minister also prayed for those killed in the devastating earthquake and sympathized with the bereaved families.

BENAZIR: The leader of the opposition Ms. Benazir Bhutto has expressed the view that the nuclear test conducted by Pakistan Saturday was unnecessary.

In an interview with the BBC she said efforts should be made to defuse tension.

She said the government of Pakistan should launch a campaign at international level and tell the world that it is Kashmir dispute which has led to the present situation where both India and Pakistan have carried out nuclear tests.

GALLOP: Support for the nuclear tests carried out by Pakistan is near universal with 97 percent of Pakistanis supporting the decision while only 3 percent opposed the tests carried out on Thursday.

These findings have emerged from a snap poll carried out by Pakistan Institute of Public opinion for Gallop international. The poll was conducted in all major cities of Pakistan on Friday, the day after Pakistan's first nuclear tests.

A majority of 61 percent of Pakistanis believed that as a result of Pakistan's nuclear tests, the chances of war with India have diminished.

Majority of the people said the effects of the possible sanctions to be imposed by international community would be mild and Pakistan would be able to overcome them.

KASHMIR-APHC: A leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Agha Syed Hassan Musavi Budgami has said Kashmir issue is the main cause of nuclear race in South Asia. It is, therefore, imperative that the world powers give top priority to Kashmir issue, the oldest unresolved issue on the United Nations agenda.

Addressing a special gathering in Budgam, he said, it was imperative for Pakistan to respond in kind to the Indian nuclear threat, posed by its uncalled for nuclear tests.

KASHMIR: In occupied Kashmir, a number of students were arrested when they took to the streets in Srinagar to protest against custodial killing of a fellow student, Murshid Ali.

Demonstrations in Ganderbal area were triggered by the killing of a youth, Muhammad Ashraf in custody.

Meanwhile, 18 troops were reported critically injured when a military vehicle was blasted in a land mine explosion at Surankot in Poonch district. Some of the injured troops were reported to have later died in the hospital.

QADEER: The renowned Pakistani scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan says the Pakistani nuclear scientists and Engineers are fully capable to serve the cause of national defence as the successful nuclear tests have proved.

Addressing a crowded news conference of national and international press and media in Islamabad Sunday evening, he said, Pakistan has the capability to test a thermo-nuclear device if and when required, in national interest.

He refuted Indian propaganda about the Pakistani nuclear tests. He said just to cover their own failings in respect of their 5 nuclear tests, they are trying to spread lies about Pakistan's successful nuclear tests.

Answering a question Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan said Pakistan is also capable of designing and manufacturing centrifugal nuclear equipment.

QAZI: Jammat-e-Islamic Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said his party is ready to cooperate with the government unconditionally in order to meet the post nuclear challenges.

Addressing a rally in Karachi he said we are ready to offer any sacrifice for the bright future and safety of Pakistan. He said Indian nuclear tests had posed a serious threat not only to Pakistan's security but also to regional peace.

GOHAR: The Foreign Minister, Mr.GoharAyub Khan says we will face sanctions bravely and the nation will successfully come out of these sanctions.

In an interview with PTV Sunday, he said people should not worry about sanctions and should stand like a rock as they stood in 1965 war.

He said we will show to the world that we will come out successfully from the present difficulty in the same way as we completed our nuclear programme in spite of sanctions.

REPORT: The result of the 5 nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan remained according to the expectations of scientists and engineers.

Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission sources said the data obtained from these tests will help co-relate the country's nuclear programme to its defence and security requirements.

They said the tests were conducted one after the other at 16 minutes past 3 in the desert area of Chaghi.

On the successful conclusion of the tests the engineers and scientists raised the slogans of Naar-e-Taqbeer Allah-o-Akbar and bowed before the Almighty Allah in complete submission.

TANVEER: A former Foreign Secretary Dr. Tanveer Ahmed has said that it is good omen for Pakistan that Islamic countries have reacted positively to Pakistan's nuclear tests conducted for its security and self-defence.

In an interview in Islamabad he said the spirit and mood of the nation is very high and the people are ready to face the challenges ahead.
