Berlin rejects speculations on German-Italian peace plan for Libya
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Mar 28, IRNA -- The German government here Monday dismissed speculations about a German-Italian peace plan for Libya.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing in Berlin, foreign ministry spokesman Andreas Peschke said his country was in steady contact with other international partners, including Italy, and therefore there had been 'different considerations.'
Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini pointed over the weekend to a joint Libya peace plan with Germany which involved reportedly a ceasefire, a humanitarian corridor and exile for Libyan dictator Moammar Qadhafi.
Reacting to the report, Peschke said he was 'not aware' of such a proposal on a humanitarian corridor in Libya.
He added what was important would be Qadhafi's readiness to finally relinquish power.
Unlike Italy, Germany is not directly involved in the western Libyan military campaign.
Meanwhile, foreign ministers from 35 countries are to meet in London on Tuesday to discuss Libya's future.
