TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian top military commander Brigadier General Hassan Firouzabadi said the US meddling in Libyan issues seeks exploiting its oil wells.

"The fact is that the US intends to interfere in Libyan affairs to take possession of oil wells and then leave Libyans as it did with Iraqis," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces told a crowd of students and professors at a military university on Saturday.

He continued, "but it will not happen to Libya, now Libyans have their oil under control and they plan to use their power and capability to become independent and reject any dictatorship."

Firouzabadi then highlighted the US strategic and historic mistakes in attacking Iraq and Afghanistan and said the mistake strengthened Islamic uprisings.

He added in addition to oil wells, the West is also concerned that Islamic movements come out.

Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi's regime started brutal and massive crackdown on opposition protests some two weeks ago which has pushed death toll to 2,000 people so far.

The US has called for the international community's support for military intervention in Libya.

US President Barack Obama has publicly said for the first time that Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi must leave office.

During a news conference Thursday, Obama said he has ordered

the US military to be prepared to take action in Libya if needed.

Obama claimed that he wants to make sure that the United States "has full capacity to act, potentially rapidly, if the situation deteriorates" in Libya.
