Iran ready to expand relations with Libya

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Libyan counterpart Najla Mangoush held a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday.

While expressing his satisfaction with the establishment of security and stability in Libya, Amir-Abdollahian expressed Iran's readiness to expand relations with this friendly country, stressing that Tehran is ready to assist Libya in its reconstruction projects.

The Iranian top diplomat criticized the West's double standard and political exploitation of women's rights, while explaining the true position of women in Iran.

Amir-Abdollahian also condemned the desecration of the holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark, stressing the importance of solidarity and unity among Islamic countries worldwide in this regard.

Najla Mangoush, for her part, expressed her satisfaction with the visit to Tehran, which was the first high-ranking Libyan official visit to Iran in nearly 17 years, stating that it reflects the two countries' willingness to develop appropriate relations.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to expand cooperation in various fields, including the establishment of a joint high commission, the formation of political consultation committees, strengthening economic relations, scientific and technological cooperation, and holding specialized exhibitions.

They also praised recent developments in their diplomatic relations, including the upgrade of Libya's diplomatic representation in Tehran to ambassadorial level, the reopening of the Iranian embassy in Tripoli, and the resumption of shipping between the two countries.
