- KAZAKHSTAN: Disturbing health statistics from nuclear Semipalatinsk IRIN 28 Aug 2003 -- A former nuclear testing area in Semipalatinsk, a town in northern Kazakhstan, continues to adversely affect the health of the local population, particularly pregnant women, new figures show. Nine out of ten pregnant women in the town and in some rural areas nearby are suffering from various diseases due to their immunity system being weak.
