- US / KAZAK / NUKES VOA 30 Jan 2002-- The United States and Kazakhstan are beginning another joint venture aimed at preventing nuclear material produced in the former Soviet Union from falling into the hands of hostile governments and would-be terrorists.

former nuclear weapons plant in Kazahkstan, the Ulba Metallurgical
Plant, develop the capability to separate low-enriched uranium from
uranium concentrates, with the processed uranium then made available
as a power source to civilian power reactors around the world,
according to a Department of Energy press release.
