On October 22, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev now in Moscow on his first official foreign visit.

The ministers substantively discussed steps to deepen the Russia-Kazakhstan relationship of strategic partnership and alliance. They reviewed the implementation of key top-level agreements in the run-up to President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's first state visit to the Russian Federation later this year.

The foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the trust-based political dialogue and coordinating efforts to address pressing regional and international issues. They expressed willingness to continue close cooperation within the framework of common integration associations across the Eurasian space such as the EAEU, the CSTO, the CIS, the SCO, and the CICA, as well as other multilateral intergovernmental platforms, primarily the UN.

The ministers discussed preparations for the 7th Caspian Summit in Tehran in 2026. They emphasised the importance of the earliest possible entry into force of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea signed by all five littoral states.

During the talks, the Kazakhstani side was briefed in detail on the progress of the Special Military Operation.

The meeting was held in a traditionally warm and friendly atmosphere.
