Secretary of State Marco Rubio met today with Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu in Tokyo. Secretary Rubio congratulated Foreign Minister Motegi on his appointment following the historic election of Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Japan alliance in maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed opportunities for economic collaboration, strengthening deterrence, and expanding security cooperation.
