Foreign Minister IWAYA's Meeting with IAEA Director General Grossi

On September 23, commencing at about 10:30 a.m. local time (11:30 p.m. JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly session, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The overview is as follows.

1. At the outset, Minister IWAYA expressed his gratitude for DG Grossi's strong support regarding the implementation of monitoring for the discharge of the ALPS treated water into the sea.
2. Minister IWAYA received an explanation from DG Grossi about the IAEA's efforts regarding the Iran's nuclear issue which is at a critical juncture, and stated that Japan will support the IAEA's efforts for the resumption of its cooperation with the IAEA.
3. The two sides also discussed the North Korea's nuclear issue and concurred to continue working closely on this matter.
