
Foreign Minister IWAYA's meeting with H.E. Ms. Annalena BAERBOCK, President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly

On September 23, commencing at around 2:30 p.m. local time (on 24, 3:30 a.m. JST) for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Annalena BAERBOCK, President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA congratulated President Baerbock on her assumption of the presidency of the General Assembly and stated that he strongly hopes President Baerbock would exercise her leadership in facilitating during the 80th session of the General Assembly. In response, President Baerbock welcomed Minister IWAYA's attendance at the UN General Assembly.
- Minister IWAYA conveyed that Security Council reform is urgently necessary and counts on President Baerbock's leadership towards the achievement of the reform. Minister IWAYA also stated that Japan is willing to actively contribute to discussions on revitalizing the General Assembly and conveyed the intention to continue working with President Baerbock. In reply, President Baerbock expressed her determination to reform the UN and her will to continue collaborating closely with Japan.
