Radioactive water has apparently leaked from another underground storage tank at Japan's heavily damaged Fukushima Daiichi power plant, Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) officials say.
TEPCO said in a Saturday statement that 120 tons of contaminated water has leaked from the nuclear plant which is only 800m away from the sea, but the reason behind the leak from one of the seven storage tanks is still unknown.
Officials have noted that it is still unclear how long the leak will continue.
Over the recent weeks, Fukushima plant has experienced several technical malfunctions.
On Friday, one of the plant's reactors lost the ability to cool radioactive fuel rods for about three hours.
On March 11, 2011, a nine-magnitude earthquake inflicted heavy damages on the six-reactor Fukushima plant. The cooling systems of the plant's reactors were knocked out, leading to meltdowns and the leakage of radioactive materials.
This forced tens of thousands of people from their homes and polluted nearby lands.
