OIC chief: Israel should instantly sign NPT

Tehran, April 17, IRNA -- Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said here on Saturday the Zionist regime should immediately sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
He made the remarks in a speech to the opening ceremony of the two-day International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation underway in Tehran with participation of over 60 countries.
He said the OIC was after developing an international initiative to face the present challenges to the international community.
He said the initiative would aim at encouraging international contribution and cooperation to destroy weapons of mass destruction.
To achieve this ultimate goal, the OIC chief added, the Zionist regime should sign NPT and other related protocols soon.
Stressing that the OIC supports Iran’s absolute right to produce nuclear energy, he emphasized the need to settle the dispute about Iranian nuclear program by diplomatic means.
Ihsanoglu stressed that the world community should work together to destroy weapons of mass destruction. Otherwise, the humanity will be destroyed by such weapons, he said.
