Iran warns against Israel`s nuke capabilities for world peace
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 24, IRNA -- Iran`s representative at International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Pirouz Hosseini here on Friday warned the global community against Israel`s nuclear threat against Middle East and world peace and security. Addressing the 48th session of the IAEA`s General Assembly in Vienna, he stressed, "Iran has always supported the idea of establishing a nuclear free Middle East, but materializing such an idea has always had a serious obstacle, namely Israel with its scores of nuclear warheads." Hosseini emphasized that Israel`s nuclear facilities which are not under IAEA`s safeguards, or even supervision, are a serious threat against world peace and stability and therefore, the international community should adopt serious measures on the matter immediately. He asked the global community to impose serious pressure against the usurper Israeli regime to force it to put its nuclear facilities under the UN nuclear watchdog`s safeguards and close watch, and to join to the NPT without delay, if the IAEA truly cares about the world peace and stability. IAEA `s general conference, held once a year, wound up its activities on Friday after discussions on general subjects related to nuclear power, and topmost important international issues. In the meeting, IAEA asked all its member countries that have not still signed the nuclear-Non-Proliferation Treaty`s (NPT`s) additional protocol not only to join it, but also to try to fully implement all its articles, as well as the NPT articles. 1391/2329/1432
