Minister of Foreign Affairs met today (Monday, 4 August 2025) in Jerusalem with a Congressional delegation led by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson. Other members of the delegation included Congressman Nathaniel Moran, Claudia Tenney, Michael McCaul, Michael Cloud and Heather Johnston.
The meeting centered on the importance of the alliance between Israel and the US, the situation in Syria and Gaza, and the importance of Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria.
FM Sa'ar commended the members of the delegation on their visit to Israel and on their true friendship with Israel. He also thanked Speaker Johnson for his support for Israel and expressed his gratitude for the strong support for Israel shown by the administration led by President Trump.
FM Sa'ar addressed the issue of antisemitism currently raging around the world. Among other things, he raised the issue of the Irish government's intention to promote antisemitic legislation aimed at banning the import of products from Judea and Samaria.
Regarding Syria, FM Sa'ar stated: "We want two simple things in Syria: The first is security. To prevent jihadists from establishing themselves near the border. The second thing is to prevent harm to the Druze minority. The Druze in Syria have undergone a barbaric and brutal attack.
Now there is a humanitarian crisis in the Sweida area." FM Sa'ar stressed the importance of opening humanitarian aid routes to Sweida and emphasized the hypocrisy of the international community that is turning a blind eye to the situation there.
With regard to the strategic importance of the settlement in Judea and Samaria, FM Sa'ar stated: "Israel will not commit suicide. We will not agree to a Palestinian state that will be a Hamas jihadist state that will leave Israel with indefensible borders." The minister further added that on October 7, we saw what happens when there is no strategic depth, and noted that he had always seen the settler community as a pioneering community that, by settling in Judea and Samaria, protects Israel as a whole.
