Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Director General Yossi Shelley began his visit to the north, today, with a condolence call at the home of soldier Sufian Dagash, who fell in battle in the Gaza Strip. He expressed his appreciation for the great contribution of the Druze community and its efforts since the outbreak of the Swords of Iron war, and also sent his condolences to all bereaved families.

PMO Director General Shelley then held a meeting with Druze and Circassian local council heads at Maghar City Hall, which was also attended by Druze spiritual leader Mowafaq Tarif and Druze Local Authorities Chairman Jaber Hamoud.

Following the conclusion of the five-year plan in 2023 with a high utilization rate of approximately 90%, a working meeting was held today ahead of the presentation of an additional five-year plan for the development of the communities.

During the discussion, various areas for which solutions need to be formulated were raised, including housing, planning, infrastructure development, education and social welfare.

It will be recalled, that at its meeting last Sunday, the Government approved a decision to allocate NIS 12.5 million for strengthening social resilience in the Druze communities during the war. PMO Director General Shelley told the council heads that he intended to submit for Government approval an additional five-year plan for 2024-2028 in order to continue the development of the Druze and Circassian communities.

PMO Director General Shelley at the conclusion of the visit:

"It was personally important for me to come here today. The Druze community is dear to our hearts and constitutes an integral part of Israeli society. There is no doubt that additional investment is required in infrastructure, health, education and other areas. All of this will be budgeted in the detailed five-year plan that we will submit soon."
