UNITED NATIONS COMPENSATION COMMISSION ELECTS PRESIDENT,
VICE-PRESIDENT FOR 1995-1996
GENEVA, 19 January (UN Information Service) -- The Governing Council
of the United Nations Compensation Commission, established by Security
Council resolution 692 (1991) to review compensation claims resulting from
Iraq's invasion and occupation of Kuwait, has elected Italy as its President
for the period 1995-1996, replacing Spain which held the presidency in
1993-1994. The Council also elected Indonesia as its Vice-President for the
same period, replacing Brazil.
The new President is the Permanent Representative of Italy in Geneva,
Giuseppe Baldocci. The new Vice-President is Soemadi D.M. Brotodiningrat,
the Permanent Representative of Indonesia in Geneva.
The Governing Council of the Compensation Commission will hold its
next meeting from 20 to 24 March.
