ASSESSING IRAQ'S REMAINING CBW CAPABILITY
Iraq's known research, development, and production capability in
biological warfare has been destroyed. To achieve its prewar
status would take several years, possibly as long as 10 years.
Iraq's known capability to store biological agents i.e. 12-frame
refrigerated bunkers, has been degraded by 84%. Replacing these
sophisticated bunkers would take several years.
Iraq's known capability to produce chemical agents has been
degraded by at least 75%. Its known capability to mate CW agent
with munitions has been eliminated, however, we believe some
clandestine capability must exist, all be it small. Returning to
prewar status would take at least several years, possibly as long
as 10 years.
Iraq's known CW storage bunkers i.e. s-shaped and cruciform, has
been degraded by 63%. Replacing these bunkers would take several
years.
The attached tables are provided as a detailed breakdown of CBW
status.
