Subject: Decontamination Sites

I. Reported locations of decontamination sites in the KTO are as
follows:

30O8O2N 04739O3E 3OO802N O473903E

It is probable that many of these sites are now abandoned and that
new, as yet undetected, sites may have been constructed.
2. We do not know with any degree of confidence where the Iraqis
are storing their chemical weapons in the KTO. Traditionally,
Iraq has not deployed its chemical weapons to forward based units
until their use was imminent. Since the coalition's bombing
campaign against Iraqi chemical production, storage and filling
facilities began on 17 January, it is believed that they have
probably dispersed their sensitive chemical weapons stocks to
improve survivability. The current whereabouts of their chemical
inventory is unknown. While we maintain a listing of 22 [
(b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4) ] bunkers suspected of CW storage (six have
now been damaged) and 19 [ (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4) ] bunkers (12
are now destroyed) that could also be used for CW storage, only
three of their locations are within the KTO. [ (b)(1) sec
1.3(a)(4) ]
3. The following is a list of storage sites within the KTO that

reportedly attacked by the Iranians in 1987, but underground
storage tanks could remain.

This list should not be considered complete. Further research
would be needed to prepare a comprehensive list. Almost all of
these sites have had [ (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4) ] reporting.
Chemical weapons storage cannot be confirmed at these or any other
locations.
