NEW INFORMATION ON CW DEVELOPMENT
COMMENT:
IRAQ'S
CW-RELATED FACILITIES NEAR AL FALLUJAH AND AL HABBANIYAH, FOR
EXAMPLE, WERE ORIGINALLY BELIEVED TO BE FOR PRODUCTION OF PRECURSORS,
NOT CW AGENTS, AND SALMAN PAK WAS THOUGHT TO BE DEDICATED SOLELY
TO BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS DEVELOPMENT. IRAQ HAS PRODUCED LARGE AMOUNTS
OF SULFUR MUSTARD, ANOTHER BLISTER AGENT, BUT NITROGEN MUSTARD WAS
NOT KNOWN TO BE IN ITS ARSENAL. THE FACILITY NEAR MOSUL HAD NOT
SPECIFICALLY BEEN CONNECTED WITH CHEMICAL WARHEAD DEVELOPMENT,
BUT IT CERTAINLY IS CAPABLE OF SUCH AN EFFORT.
