SUMMARY: RESEARCH ON ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPERATION OF URANIUM
BEGAN AT THE TUWAITHA NUCLEAR CENTER IN 1985. AFTER INITIAL
SUCCESSES WITH A SINGLE SEPERATOR, A SPECIAL BUILDING WAS BUILT AND THREE LARGER SEPERATORS CONSTRUCTED. SUCCESS WITH THESE SEPERATORS LED TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF PRODUCTION FACILITIES AT TARMIYA AND ASH SHARQAT. TARMIYA WAS IN OPERATION WHEN THE FACILITY WAS DESTROYED.
TEXT:1.
IN 1985, GROUPS WORKING ON THE ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPERATION OF
URANIUM (EMIS), LASER SEPARATION OF URANIUM, AND ON CHEMICAL
PROCESSES USING GLASS EQUIPMENT AND ACETONE, WERE HOUSED IN THE LABORATORY WORKSHOP BUILDING LOCATED NEXT TO THE TAMMUZ REACTOR BUILDING IN THE TUWAITHA NUCLEAR CENTER.
2. EXPERIMENTS WITH THE SEPERATOR WERE SUCCESSFUL IN
LATE 1986 OR EARLY 1987, AND A SEPARATE BUILDING WAS BUILT TO SUPPORT THE EXPERIMENTS.
7. TARMIYA WAS BUILT IN TWO STAGES. THE FIRST STAGE INCLUDED BUILDING 80
WHICH HE UNDERSTOOD TO HAVE BEEN COMPLETED IN NOVEMBER 1989. AND WAS DESIGNED TO HOLD 70 SEPERATORS
PLANNED TO INSTALL SEPERATORS IN
BUILDING 90 WHICH WAS NOT COMPLETE
8. THE BODY OF THE
SEPERATORS WERE MADE AT AQUBA BIN NAFEE AT KHANDARI WEST OF
