Tehran, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says Iran is determined to fulfill its obligation to the Iraqi administration in thwarting unlawful actions by the United States.
It is extremely deplorable that the U.S. administration has decided to target the innocent Iraqi nation, wrote Araqchi late on Monday on his X account.
The U.S. seeks to deprive the Iraqi people of access to basic services such as electricity, especially ahead of the coming hot months of the year, the official said.
"We stand with the Iraqi people and remain firm on our commitment to the Iraqi Government, which we will engage with to thwart unlawful US actions."
The United States has ended a sanctions waiver that allowed Iraq to buy electricity from Iran, in line with U.S. President Donald Trump's policy of exerting maximum pressure on Tehran, said Al Jazeera on Sunday.
