Erbil says to comply with Iraq's integrity
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Erbil, Nov 14, IRNA -- The Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government has said it would remain committed to Iraq's integrity and decisions made by the country's Federal Supreme Court.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government said it will follow the legal solutions based on the Iraqi Constitution to find a settlement to the disputes concerning the range of the authority of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and the central government.
The statement, however, fails to announce the results of a September 25 separatist referendum void, which is contrary to the preconditions set by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for the start of talks with Erbil.
Reiterating its support for any plan, particularly the plan proposed by Grand Ayaollah Ali Sistani, to bring a solution to the problems, the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government said it respects and complies with the interpretation of Article 1 of the Iraqi Constitution by Iraq's Federal Supreme Court.
The statement underlines that the process is the only way to preserve the Iraqi integrity.
