IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sep 24, IRNA -- Iranian parliament (Majlis) national security and foreign policy commission on Sunday discussed referendum in the Iraqi Kurdistan's semi-autonomous region.
'Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari was also present in the meeting,' rapporteur of national security and foreign policy commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said.
The referendum for independence in the northern Iraqi region 'will harm the Kurds and the Kurdish region at the first stage and Iraq, the neighbors and the region at the second stage,' Naqavi quoted the chairman of parliament national security and foreign policy commission.
Iraqi Kurdistan's ruling party president Masoud Barzani insists on holding referendum for independence on September 25 amid oppositions against referendum from the Iraqi central government and the international community.
