Baghdad, Aug 15, IRNA -- Iran's Envoy to Iraq Iraj Masjedi urged dialogue between Iraqi central government and the Kurdish autonomous region to resolve disputes between them.
Iran elaborated on its stance regarding referendum for statehood in Iraq's Kurdistan region, the envoy told reporters after a meeting with the Iraqi Kurdistan delegation dispatched for Baghdad.
He voiced hope for success of talks between the Kurdistan region and the Iraqi federal government.
Meanwhile, Rowsch Nuri Shaways, head of the Kurdistan region delegation briefed the Iranian envoy on the outcomes of his meeting with the Iraqi central government.
Iraq's central government and the country's neighbors, including Iran and Turkey have opposed the Iraqi Kurdistan region plan to hold a referendum on statehood in September.
The international community and the US have also opposed the idea and many Kurdish people and parties believe that referendum will add to the region's problems.
