Iraqi Troops Kill Daesh 'Oil Minister' of Nineveh Province in Mosul
Iraqi special forces on Monday killed the Daesh terrorist group's "oil minister" of the country's northern province of Nineveh during the operation to retake the occupied city of Mosul, Iraq's Counter Terrorism Service's press service said.
ERBIL (Iraq), (Sputnik) – According to the press service, the name of the jihadist organization's killed "minister" was Asghad Abu Azzam.
Mosul, the second biggest Iraqi city, as well as a number of other northern and western Iraqi cities and towns were seized in 2014 during an offensive of the Daesh terror group, which had gained resources from illicit trade of oil produced at the occupied territories.
Iraqi forces backed by the US-led coalition against Daesh launched the operation to reclaim Mosul from the extremist group, outlawed in Russia and the United States among others, on October 17.
