Nearly a dozen people have been killed and 19 others injured in separate bomb explosions and shooting incidents in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and elsewhere in the crisis-hit Arab country.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said three civilians lost their lives when a group of unidentified armed men raided a number of houses southeast of the city of Baqouba, located some 50 kilometers (31 miles) northeast of Baghdad, Arabic-language satellite television network, al-Baghdadia, reported.

The source added that the assailants also set four houses on fire in the area, noting that the motive behind the act of violence remains unknown and a search operation is underway to arrest the perpetrators.

In the capital's southern neighborhood of Furat, an improvised explosive device exploded near a commercial district, killing two people and injuring seven others.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the site of the attack and ambulance workers ferried the wounded to a nearby hospital.

Two people were also killed and five others wounded when a bomb went off close to a popular market in the al-Obeidi neighborhood in eastern Baghdad.

Also on Saturday, a roadside bomb targeted a military car in the capital's southern neighborhood of al-Latifiyah, killing a soldier and injuring five others.

A civilian was also killed when a bomb attached to his car exploded on Sadoun Street in central Baghdad. A passerby was also injured.

Another civilian was gunned down during a drive-by shooting in Baghdad's eastern neighborhood of al-Amin.

Additionally, a police captain was killed when an improvised explosive device attached beneath his civilian car blew up in the capital's upmarket neighborhood of Yarmouk.

A lawyer also sustained injuries when a bomb went off in al-Ghazaliya neighborhood in western Baghdad.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attacks.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq says a total of 717 Iraqis were killed and another 1,216 wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in September alone.

According to the UN mission, the number of civilian fatalities stood at 537. Violence also claimed the lives of 180 members of the Iraqi security forces. A great portion of the fatalities was recorded in Baghdad, where 257 civilians were killed.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since Daesh Takfiri militants began their march through the Iraqi territory in June 2014.

Army soldiers and Popular Mobilization units have joined forces and are seeking to take back militant-held regions in joint operations.
