TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad- Javad Zarif said that the country would continue effective support for Iraqi government to battle terrorism.
Iraq is playing an important role in stability and security of the entire region, Zarif said in a meeting UN representative to Iraq Jan Kubiš in Tehran, and called for the international community's support for Iraq in fighting terrorism.
Zarif further slammed support for the ISIL and other terrorist groups in Iraq, Syria and Yemen and described as 'weak and unacceptable' US coalition against the ISIL.
"Fighting terrorist and Takfiri groups is of considerable importance in the region and the international community should block the direct and indirect support for these groups."
Jan Kubiš, for his part, said the only key to leave Iraq's current crisis behind is national unity in the country.
He also said participation of regional and international sides to end the crisis is of great importance.
The UN representative to Iraq further said that he would consult with all sides to find effective and practical solutions for Iraq's crisis and reiterated Iran's special position.
