Iraqi Army Airstrike Kills 25 Civilians Reports

At least 25 civilians, women and children, reportedly were killed on Thursday in an airstrike carried out by the Iraqi Air Force.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 25 civilians, women and children, were killed on Thursday in an airstrike carried out by the Iraqi Air Force in the central part of the country, Sky News Arabia reported, citing a health official.

The bombing occurred in the city of Fallujah located some 42 miles west of the capital Baghdad.

"Iraqi warplanes dropped three bombs on the hospital, located at the banks of the Euphrates in the west of Fallujah," the source said.

At least 30 people have been injured, and the number is likely to increase as debris removal has not yet been completed, according to the source.

Vast territories in Iraq and Syria are currently under the control of ISIL militant group, notorious for its numerous terror attacks. Fallujah, which is part of a the Iraqi province of Anbar, has been under ISIL control since 2014.

Earlier this week, the Iraqi army intensified its operations in Fallujah. At least 10 ISIL commanders were killed during the clashes.

Iraqi government forces also managed to encircle the center of Anbar province, Ramadi, previously captured by the ISIL.
