Iran's Khamenei accuses US in using Iraq conflict to destabilize country

23 June 2014, 14:39 -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the current Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei strongly opposes the interference of United States in Iraq's internal issues. While meeting with Iran's judicial officials in the country's capital on Sunday, the former Iran's President Khamenei declared that the US and its Western allies are to blame for the ongoing unrest and violence in Iraq.

Ayatollah Khamenei believes that 'the Iraqi government, nation and religious authority are capable of ending this sedition and will end it, God willing.'

The Iran's authority noted that hegemonic Western states, and United States in particular, want to gain profit due to the crisis in Iraq and the activities of some 'mercenary elements'.

'The main objective behind recent events in Iraq is to deprive the country's people from achievements which they made despite the US presence and intervention; the most important of which is the rule of a democratic system,' Khamenei stated, PressTV reports.

The Islamic revolution leader believes that the high voter turnout in Iraq's parliamentary election opposes US interests as it wants it to remain a puppet state.

Khamenei emphasizes that the conflict between Shiites and Sunni Muslims in Iraq is just a pretext. He thinks that the system is using Sunni militants and the sympathizers of the toppled Saddam Hussein regime in order to destabilize Iraq threating the country's territorial integrity.

Iran's Supreme Leader stated that main conflict in Iraq involves those who are interested in Iraq remaining under the US control and those want Iraq to be an independent state.
