Iraqi Sahwa Leader Escapes Bomb Attack
September 02, 2013
Iraqi authorities say a prominent leader of a Sunni tribal militia opposed to Al-Qaeda has escaped an assassination attempt.
The Interior Ministry said two suicide bombers blew themselves up near Wisam al-Hardan’s home in Baghdad's western Harthiyah neighborhood on September 2, killing five bodyguards and wounding four others.
Hardan was apparently not hurt in the attack.
He was recently appointed by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to lead the Sahwa, a collection of Sunni tribal militias fighting Al-Qaeda members and other militants.
