Security and medical officials says at least 16 people have been killed and dozens more wounded in a series of bomb explosions across Iraq.

Four people lost their lives in the Binouq neighborhood of northern Baghdad on Thursday, when cars rigged with explosives were set off.

Three people also died in a bombing at a market selling spare car parts in central Baghdad.

Police said they were killed in the al-Karradah neighborhood of the Iraqi capital, when a roadside bomb targeted a police patrol convoy.

The force of the explosion mangled the police pickup truck, shattered several store window panes, and twisted metal signs on some shops.

“What have these innocent people done to deserve this? So many people were hurt. Who is responsible?” witness Sinan Ali asked.

Meanwhile, a car bomb went off near a military convoy in relatively upscale neighborhood of al-Azamiyah in northern Baghdad, killing three people. Two of the victims were soldiers.

Fourteen people also sustained injuries in the act of violence.

Elsewhere, three were killed in the northern city of Mosul - located about 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad - when a bomber attacked a federal police checkpoint.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks but such bombings bear the hallmarks of al-Qaeda-linked militants in Iraq, who seek to destabilize the central government.

Attacks, including a bombing against a bridal party, killed 28 people and wounded dozens in Iraq on Wednesday.

A car bomb exploded in south Baghdad as people cheered a bride ahead of her wedding, killing 16 people and wounding 42 others.

At least nine people were killed and 15 others wounded when two more bombs detonated in a commercial area in western Baghdad.

In Baghdad's western neighborhood of Abu Ghraib, gunmen shot dead an Army brigadier general, identified as Talib Mohammed, at his home. Security sources said the armed men used weapons equipped with silencers in the attack.

Two roadside bombs went off near a football field in the city of Baquba, located about 50 kilometers (31 miles) northeast of Baghdad, killing one person and wounding nine.

Gunmen also killed an anti-Qaeda militia leader southwest of the city of Kirkuk, situated 236 kilometers (147 miles) north of Baghdad.

Additionally, a roadside bomb targeted the convoy of Salahuddin governor Amhed Abdullah Abid Kalaf in the north of Tikrit, located about 140 kilometers (86 miles) northwest of Baghdad, wounding four of his guards.

According to the United Nations, more than 500 people have been killed since the start of May. April was the deadliest month in Iraq since 2008 as terrorist acts killed over 700 people and injured more than 1,600 across the country.
