More Car Bombs Hit Baghdad After Wave Of Deadly Attacks
May 16, 2013
There have been at least two more deadly car-bomb attacks in Iraq, one day after a series of bombings killed more than 30 people.
Officials said the blasts hit predominantly Shi'a areas of the capital, Baghdad, including the Sadr City neighborhood, on May 16.
The authorities said at least 12 civilians were killed and 30 were wounded.
On May 15, bomb attacks hit Shi'ite areas of Baghdad and sites in northern Iraq.
At least seven died in the attack in Sadr City.
The spike in violence comes amid growing tensions between Iraq's Sunni Muslims and the Shi'ite-led government.
Sunni Muslims accuse Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's government of marginalizing and persecuting their minority community.
In televised remarks on May 16, Maliki blamed "sectarian hatred" for the surge in violence.
