At Least Eight Killed In Baghdad Attacks
October 23, 2012
Separate attacks in Shi’ite neighborhoods of Baghdad have killed at least eight people and wounded more than 20 others.
Most of the deaths occurred in the northwestern area of Shula, where at least one car bomb exploded. Multiple mortars also struck the northern district of Chikouk.
Chikouk is home to a camp for internally displaced persons, mostly Shi’as who fled largely Sunni areas during Iraq's sectarian violence in 2006 and 2007.
The attacks come after shootings and bomb attacks in Baghdad and other cities killed more than a dozen people on October 20.
The overall death toll was the highest in Iraq since September 30, when at least 26 people were killed and more than 100 wounded nationwide.
