Car Bomb Kills 25 In Southern Iraq
July 03, 2012
Officials say at least 25 people have been killed and some 50 others injured in a car-bomb explosion that hit a busy market in the southern Iraqi city of Diwaniya.
In the wake of the blast, police have announced a partial curfew and closed all entrances to the city.
Earlier on July 3, two roadside bombs targeting Shi'ite pilgrims killed four people and wounded some 20 others near the central city of Karbala.
Pilgrims have been gathering for the trek to Karbala to celebrate the birthday of the 12th imam, called Al-Mahdi, one of the most important figures in Shi'ite Islam.
Iraq's Sunni Al-Qaeda wing has claimed responsibility for some recent bombings targeting Shi'a.
